Dr. Sarah Gallant Finds Innovative Uses for Technology in the Classroom
Transforming Chemistry Education with Technology: iPads and OneNote in Action
In an exciting leap forward for classroom innovation, Dr. Sarah Gallant is harnessing the power of iPads and OneNote Class Notebook to transform the way students learn in both lectures and laboratories. By integrating technology into traditional teaching methods, students are experiencing chemistry in new way and professors are better able to assist them during their labs.
A Smarter Lab Experience
Assistant Professor Dr. Sarah Gallant has shared that the Class Notebook serves as a digital laboratory manual and notebook in chemistry labs and lectures. Students record their data and calculations directly on their iPads as they perform experiments. Integration between lab equipment and iPads allows students to collect and visualize data graphically, creating an interactive and dynamic learning experience. Instructors, meanwhile, can monitor student progress in real-time and provide immediate feedback and guidance as students work. This hands-on support ensures accuracy and deepens understanding, all while fostering a collaborative atmosphere in the lab.
Interactive and Insightful Lectures
The innovation doesn’t stop in the lab. In lectures, Class Notebook transforms the learning process by organizing class materials into a digital hub. Students can access lecture notes, follow along with the day’s content, and tackle “Essential Practice Problems” during the interactive portion of each class.
As students work through problems in their personal notebook folders, instructors can track their progress. This allows instructors to identify common challenges and focus on the areas where students need the most help. Acknowledging and addressing challenges early on allows for the learning experience to be more targeted and effective.
Empowering Student Success
This integration of iPads and Class Notebook equips students with modern tools to enhance their learning and prepares them for the technology-driven world beyond the classroom. By bridging traditional teaching with innovative technology, we’re creating an environment where students can explore, experiment, and excel.
Our Chemistry program is leading the way in demonstrating how technology can revolutionize education—making lessons more interactive, feedback more immediate, and learning more impactful.
