Norwich Night at the Vermont Mountaineers as Ed Hockenbury throws out the first pitch.
The Vermont Mountaineers hosted a special Norwich Night on Friday, July 5th.

The stands were filled with Norwich employees clad in the maroon t-shirts and hats. Prior to the start of the game, special recognition was given to ÂÜÀò¼ÒÔ° President Broadmeadow, Mrs. Karen Broadmeadow, and ÂÜÀò¼ÒÔ° Athletic Director Ed Hockenbury.
Lieutenant General John Broadmeadow ‘83, USMC (Retired), and Ed Hockenbury took to the mound for the ceremonial first pitch of the game. The first pitch, an absolute strike, was thrown out by Ed Hockenbury.
The Northfield High School graduate earned All-State honors in baseball and basketball prior to being a three-year starting catcher at Princeton University. After graduating from Princeton, Hockenbury signed a professional baseball contract with the California Angels. Prior to being named the Athletic Director at ÂÜÀò¼ÒÔ°, Hockenbury worked in athletic administration throughout the state of Vermont, both at the University of Vermont and multiple high schools.
The Hockenbury name is well known throughout Norwich athletics. Ed Hockenbury Sr., the legendary Norwich Hall of Fame men’s basketball coach, led the Cadets for 17 years including Norwich’s first two NCAA Tournament appearances in the 1980s. The men’s and women’s basketball programs started the Hockenbury Classic to honor the late coach after his two-year battle with brain cancer.
