The ԰ School of Nursing’s Class of 2027 students gathered in the Mack Auditorium on Sept. 17 to mark their milestone transition into clinical practice through the traditional White Coat Ceremony.

The ceremony for nurses is a symbolic event that marks the transition from classroom learning to clinical practice, celebrating the commitment that nursing students make to delivering high-quality, compassionate, and patient-centered care. ԰ is one of 450 nursing programs across the country that celebrate the nursing student’s milestone to clinical practice through the traditional ceremony.

“The White Coat Ceremony marks a significant milestone for nursing students, symbolizing the transition from classroom learning to the beginning of hands-on patient care,” said , senior lecturer at the School of Nursing. “The knowledge, skills, assessments, and critical thinking practiced in the classroom and lab will now be carried forward into clinical settings - where students will have the privilege of caring for patients during some of life’s most meaningful and profound moments.”

During this year’s ceremony, 56 students were presented with a white coat and recited an oath to patient care. The white coat is a universal symbol of professionalism, integrity, and trust in healthcare and the oath serves as a reminder of the vital role nurses play in promoting health, advocating for patients, and upholding the highest standards of practice. Faculty, friends, and family also attended the event to support and witness the students’ commitment to nursing excellence as they step into their roles as caregivers and leaders in healthcare.
