Military Withdrawal Policy

Keeping Our Commitment

We work hard to make it possible for our military personnel to complete their programs on schedule, and with fellow classmates in their cohort — no matter where they may be.

However, there are times when deployments make it difficult or impossible to continue. For this reason, Norwich has created a withdrawal policy so that our military personnel can focus on the mission at hand, and complete their education at a time that does not conflict with their service.

Military activation or deployment leave

Students who must withdraw or take a leave during the semester due to military activation or deployment must complete the online withdrawal form and submit their military orders for approval. Once approved, students receive a full refund of tuition and mandatory fees. Room and board charges are applied on a per-day basis. The withdrawal form is available on the Registrar’s SharePoint site.

Eligible military obligations

  • Students serving in the military who are notified after the first day of the current term that they have been activated or deployed to a combat zone, or in direct support of or proximity to a combat zone.
  • Students in the National Guard or reserve forces of the United States who are ordered to state or federal military service or duty.
  • Students who are spouses of an activated or deployed military member with a dependent child.

Student options

  1. Withdrawal: Students may withdraw (grade of W) from courses through the last day of the semester or term. The student account becomes inactive at the time of withdrawal.
  2. Incomplete grade: Students may arrange with each instructor to use the incomplete grade policy. There is no adjustment for tuition and mandatory fees. If a combination of course withdrawals and incomplete grades results in the student dropping below full-time, a refund of applicable tuition and fees will be issued.
  3. Final grade: If at least 80 percent of the course is complete at the time of leave, the student may request a final grade.

Reactivation

After the military obligation ends, students follow the readmission or reactivation policy. If the leave is within one calendar year, the advisor will help create an academic plan to support continued academic progress.
